Sculptor Phyllida Barlow talks about the relationship between a human and an object. She sees sculpture in this way, as simple as “crossing the road with a lorry coming towards you”— that these experiences are both everday occurances and also are sculptural experiences. And when those experiences happen, our emotional and psychological assessments happen in a flash. My purpose in writing and making art is always to make visible what is invisible. Our interactions are not divorced from how we came to them. The situations or interactions are not mere facts. The mood of our interactions holds in it, the reality of how we came to that interaction. Heidegger refers to this as “our Being-attuned”.
