What’s in the space where making art and doing research overlap?
You know the dicotomy: it’s either a science or an art.
But can it be both? Is there an overlap between being a scientist and an artist? Could the space where doing science and making art overlap offer us a new way of being and doing?
Let’s find out!
Why this topic?
I’m trained as a social scientist. With a PhD in Public Policy and Public Administration, I am an Associate Professor at the University of Baltimore. I’ve spent the last 12 years researching and teaching about how we interact together and what we take away in interactions.
But I identify most as an artist.
I’ve spent most of my life with two competing sides: the serious research side and the fun creative side. I’m on a mission now to figure out how to integrate my two sides.
My Sabbatical Project:
What’s in the space where making art and doing research overlap?
During my 2023 sabbatical from teaching, I’m exploring how making art could increase our ability to increase the accessibility and impact of academic research.
